M is for marauding, murderous, mercenary, monkey…

This is the story of Milicent. Milicent is a monkey, and she is a very malevolent monkey. You see, Milicent was born under a full moon, and as I am sure you are aware, monkeys born under a full moons are bad news.

For the most part, Milicent is not much trouble. She lives in a zoo and is held in by steel bars and glass windows. However, being as malevolent as she is, and having murderous tendencies, Milicent spends most of her time trying to get out of her cage in order to rampage around the city.

For years she has waited, and she has patiently worked on sawing through bars with a tiny saw-like device made from bowed sticks and a wire she found on her cage floor. (It was probably left there by an extremely careless zookeeper that did not know much about Milicent.) Tonight she should make it through the steel, and then she will escape to act upon her evil plans.

Truthfully, Milicent is not much of a planner on her own, however, it is a bad idea to tell her that. That is, if one wishes to survive. Really she is working for someone else. There is a baboon in the cage across from her named Barnabas. Barnabas is the mastermind behind Milicent’s dastardly deeds and daring delusions. She hires herself out as a mercenary and then takes credit of the marauding that Barnabas originally masterminded.

Of course, up until tonight, her marauding has mostly consisted of stealing things from zookeepers and hoarding the best bananas for herself and for Barnabas while leaving the other monkeys and baboons to hope for a few scraps. She dreams big, though, and she knows that Barnabas’s plans for murder and mayhem will come to fruition as soon as she finishes sawing.

This story has no ending, although Milicent is about to break free, so it is possible, that before too long, an ending will emerge just as Milicent the marauding, murderous, mercenary, monkey will spring forth from her cage and into the world we live in.
