blog a day challenge: b…

B is for birthday…

Today is my wonderful mother’s birthday! She’s the best. Seriously, nobody has a mother quite like mine! To begin with, her name is Lois, and that is a rocking, awesome name. She’s always been there for me, she’ll always be there for me, and she’s absolutely one of my best friends. I adore her. My mom is a travel obstetrics nurse (which means she travels around to hospitals who need temporary staff and helps deliver babies and take care of moms) and this year she’s quite a ways away from me. I can’t easily get a present to her, so instead I thought I would write her a poem or two!

A Few Haiku

Dear Mom, I love you!
But I wish you were closer
for some birthday hugs

Buckets of soft yarn,
stacks of books, and fabric piles–
you taught me so well!

Confidant and friend,
(and frequent partner in crime)
Let’s go to Vegas!

Not-A-Limerick!

A nurse named Lois did roam
(with a trailer for a home)
she went here and there,
made friends everywhere,
and she was loved wherever she went because she has a great personality and is generally easy to like and want to be around!

Actual Limerick

A daughter did want to say
to a mom, “Happy birthday!” today.
So she sat and she wrote
a few poems and a note,
and sent them off without delay!

Love you so much, Mommy! I’m so grateful for you and everything you do for me. I wouldn’t be the person I am without you! Happy birthday!

And now a birthday message from my sweet goblins!

  1. Hello,

What a wonderful post! I found you on the A to Z Challenge, and I will definitely be back to read more of your lovely writing!! Keep up the great work.

Stop over at my site too if you get a chance. :) I write humor stuff (or sometimes serious stuff that people laugh at? Does that make it humor then?).

    Best,
    MOV

  2. What a great post. It is wonderful to hear people praise their parents. It seems anymore there is more griping than loving. My momma’s name was Lois, too, and that is my middle name, so I am kind of partial to it as well.
