halloween is my favorite…

Eep! It’s halfway through November and I still haven’t posted about Halloween!

I love Halloween. I love dressing my goblins up, I love dressing me up, and I love seeing everyone else all dressed up. (It’s possible that it’s less that I love Halloween, and more that I love a reason to make and wear costumes.)

Anyhow, this Halloween was very fun.

Jenna was a kitty

Cole was a Bat turned Batman
(He changed his mind last minute… I made it work.)

I was also Batman because Batman is the best

This little drawing of me carried a pumpkin around…

We went trick-or-treating in an area of town that takes the whole experience really seriously. It was so much fun. The kids enjoyed collecting candy, and I enjoyed watching them! We went with a little group of friends, and we all had such a good time. Merriment and frolicking were definitely things that happened.

But seriously, how could you not have fun when you were in a neighborhood decorated like this?

a day at the park with a pen…

I went to the park yesterday so that my goblins could play and watch baby geese, and I could enjoy the sun. There was time spent doodling, and time spent writing, and time spent just watching my kids laugh. It was great! The doodles were nonsense. The poems were a combination of words written because they were in me and wanted out, and words written because making up stories about the people around me is fun.

Here are some poems and doodles from the day. Hope you enjoy them!

When there is nothing left…

What can I say when
you are standing there with
your eyes wide open,
and mouth shut tight.

What can I say when
you will not listen to words
screamed in silence
with nothing else to fight.

There is nothing left,
nothing to say,
and time is ticking
by faster each day.

You left me cold,
and walked out the door
leaving promises broken
and love to replay.

And you still take full
credit for the smile
that erupts on my face
when you walk by,

but the truth is that
it is not memories of you
that light up my eyes,
it is the strength of goodbye.

Sometimes it is love lost
that reminds us
why living is so important,
and that we are whole.

I hold onto that because
if not then this was all
a sham and not worth the tears
I cried that you failed to console.

Geese are not to be trifled with…

don’t meddle with geese
they do not have moral qualms
with pecking out eyes

For A Minute

There was a time when I thought
that you were handsome.
I think it was a lack of experience,
and no internet connection.
Or it could be that men are
all just better looking before
they open their mouths,
and turn into boys.

The Feather Girl

You in the corner!
The one that’s hoarding feathers.
Do you dream of flight?

yarn crafts…

I finally did it! I finally finished my insomnia hat. It started as a way to do something creative when I was up too late at night not sleeping, however it had been cast aside for writing projects and work in the late hours. So, the other day I picked it back up! Two sittings, and it was finished. I love it. The best part about knitting my own hats is that they fit! My abnormally gigantic head generally has to squeeze into standard knit hats and I end up with a headache, but when I make my own, I can make them extra large. It’s great!

After completing the hat, I was feeling the need for more knitting, so I started some leg warmers for myself. They are squishy and black and I am very excited to get them finished.
Bethany’s blanket is coming along. It’s slow work, but it’s coming. It is getting big enough that it is hard to carry around which means that little projects come with me in my backpack. However, I have it next to my bed now and I’m going to try and knit at it a bit every night. I want to have it finished by Christmas if not a bit before.
Years and years ago I promised Josh a hat. I never really kept that promise. I started one for him last year, but didn’t get it done before it started warming up so I set it aside. A couple of days ago I picked it back up and I’m going to try and have it finished by elk season. Deer season starts in a few weeks, and I’m not sure I can make it by then, but elk season should be doable.

some fabric crafts…

My sister-in-law had a baby! A beautiful baby girl. This made me an aunt for the very first time, and as an aunt, I had to spoil her a little. I made her 5 burp cloths and a very soft receiving blanket. The receiving blanket (and one of the burp cloths) was made out of flannel shirting materiel. All of the burp cloths are backed with a light purple terry cloth and four of them are made from extremely luxurious flannel that I got at a specialty quilting shop. I have really never felt flannel so soft and I’m going to have a hard time going back to the less expensive, but less comfy stuff in the future.

I have a problem. It’s a pretty big problem, actually. I can never find my keys. Or my sunglasses. Or my wallet. The other day I really needed a sewing project. That, along with my inability to keep track of such important things, caused me to make this little box.

The outside of the box is quilting fabric and corduroy.

The inside of the box (as well as the bottom on the outside) is made from duck cloth to help it keep its shape.

The pieces for this bag have been sitting in a drawer for quite a while. I’m not entirely sure what I plan to use it for. Originally I was planning on using it as a knitting bag, and it may still be, but it may also end up being used for other nerdy pursuits… like gaming. In the mean time, it is going to Seattle with me. I’m going to pack it in my suitcase in case I need extra room for packing on the way home.
(This is me modeling the bag. My 4 year old took the picture, hence the bright finger in the way of the lens…)

A while back, I found a pair of Jenna’s old jeans. They were too cute to get rid of, so they had just been sitting around. A friend suggested I turn them into a purse, Jenna liked the idea, and this is how it turned out!

a few paper crafts…

The end of summer and the beginning of fall have been a very crafty time for me. I’ve been paper crafting, yarn crafting, fabric crafting… all kinds of crafting. I have also been absolutely lousy about updating my blog when it comes to said crafting. So, I’m going to dump a bunch of time into a few blogs over the next few days!

This blog is dedicated to the paper craft. Well, it’s a part one of two. The next post will be later because I have a gigantic project in the works that isn’t done yet. However, I like these little things that I have finished.

I made magnets! I used little flat glass pieces and some really cute paper scraps.

This is something little. Jenna found some fairy paper at the store and fell in love with it. It is hard to make paper crafts for little girls that destroy paper, so I plan to frame it for her and hang it as art in her room. after I cut the piece out to frame, I had a little bit left over, so I made myself a little strip picture hanger. It isn’t anything fancy, just paper clips, paper and Jenna’s name in metallic ink, but I love it, and so does she!
