a surreptitious truth…

There are no words–
never the right words.
Summing up hours, years, a life.
What is left after endless
attempts, but a half empty
sheet of paper. Lines
running through letters,
etching parchment as deeply
as silence scores a heart.
Telling the broken story, the
impossible tale. Friends holding
hair as bodies are rent from
retching and pain. Scars
on scars. Secrets that could
bring others to their knees
make up every gasping breath,
begging to stay inside.
Suns lift off, rocketing nowhere,
while clouds crash into oceans.
A giant blur. A realization.
Then, suddenly, this
is normal. Not crushing,
but slow, steady surrender.
